The Hawaiian Steel Guitar Festivals are presented by the Hawaii Institute for Music Enrichment and Learning Experiences (HIMELE) in collaboration with its partners. These festivals bring together legendary steel guitarists for a celebration of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar and are presented at venues that target local communities. The Kahala Mall festival services Honolulu and East O'ahu communities.
The Hawaiian Steel Guitar Festivals are some of the festivals produced and presented by the Hawaii Institute for Music Enrichment and Learning Experiences (HIMELE) and its partners. The Hawaiian series of festivals is made possible in collaboration with the Windward Mall, Ka Makani Ali'i, and Kahala Mall shopping centers. The flagship Maui Steel Guitar Festival is held in the spring on Maui in collaboration with the Arts Education for Children Group (AECG) and the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel. The Kaua'i Steel Guitar Festival is held each February with HIMELE partnering with the Courtyard Kaua'i at Coconut Beach (Kapa'a). The Waikiki Steel Guitar Festival — now branded as Waikiki Steel Guitar Week, is presented by the Royal Hawaiian Center and produced by HIMELE at the Royal Grove stage at the Royal Hawaiian Center. The annual Hawai'i Island Steel Guitar Festival is held in the fall in collaboration with the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows. All festivals are presented to increase awareness and foster interest in the Hawaiian Steel Guitar, an instrument important to Hawaiian music and culture.
All these festivals are free and open to the public and made possible through grants and donations from corporate sponsors and private individuals, supplemented by in-kind contributions and volunteer resources. Please visit HIMELE's website to see how you can help support our festivals.
